On Friday 23 May 2014 Adopt a Cop Constable Kelly met 136 students and staff and parents at Stockland car park to walk to school to celebrate National Walk Safely to School Day. All together Constable Kelly escorted 180 people safely to school. With the help of Constable Brendan and Constable Nikki it was a great start to the morning. Walk Safely to School Day is an annual, national event when all Primary School children are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a Community Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment. It also reinforced pedestrian behaviour at intersections and the school crossing with Lollipop Bill. It also promotes health benefits and helps to create regular habits at an early age, reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age and which can be difficult to change as children become adults. It certainly was a great day for all! Not a bad effort considering Caloundra State School has an enrolment of 450 students.
