The Busy Bee Learning Centre for young children has commenced at Caloundra State School, providing opportunities for children to explore literacy and numeracy in a fun nurturing play based setting. Every Tuesday at 9.00 am in the after school care area, children between the ages of 2 and 5 meet together to enjoy big book reading, songs, finger rhymes, cooking, games and free play. Merryn Tuck, an early childhood teacher says, "The program is designed to foster a love of learning and provide children and parents with some of the basic pre-literacy skills that are going to be needed before children are taught the formal aspects of reading and writing". Guest speakers will attend sessions on a monthly basis. The first speaker is Emma Linthwaite, a speech pathologist who will attend on Tuesday 24th March. Emma will be talking about sound awareness for literacy.
Coffee and tea are available.
