Only last week Caloundra State School farewelled three of its students to compete in the Australian Judo Championships. For Niels and Natasha Whiteley it was their second time at the Aussies but for Sam Newman it was his first. All three students have been training very hard with Niels and Sam competing in the 12 and under division and Natasha in the 14 and under division even though she is only 12 years old. All three competitors had to previously qualify at the State titles before they were allowed to enter the Australian Titles.
Both boys fought very bravely and were extremely competitive in their age/weight groupings. Natasha continued on further in her rounds to finish second overall in her division, a division she still has two more years to compete in. She now adds a silver medal to her collection. All three competitors were delighted with their results and are very keen to return next year to compete again.
